The History of Busam Automotive

It all started in 1909. Henry Ford was traveling through Cincinnati, when his Ford broke down. Mr. Ford asked around about who could fix his car, local Cincinnatians directed him to Joe Busam’s blacksmith shop. Joe Sr. fixed Ford’s vehicle so well that Mr. Ford asked Joe to open a service facility. By 1912 Busam was selling Ford’s as the first Cincinnati Ford dealer. What started as a service center; has grown into 3 franchises (Nissan, Subaru, and Suzuki) with 2 locations.

An Ad Ran by the dealership During WWII

Joe Sr. operated the initial Busam Ford dealership throughout the 20’s, 30’s and early 40’s until his death in 1946. Joe Jr., representing the 2nd generation, took over when we returned from World War II. Joe Jr. took on new challenges, and began selling multiple franchises throughout his tenure as dealership principal. It was an interesting mix of manufacturers, many of which have gone and gone, including: Tucker, Packard, Rambler, Studebaker, Peugot, Maserati, Yugo, Alfa Romeo, and Datsun; which later was renamed Nissan.

Joe Jr. passed away in 1993 leaving the dealership to the 3rd generation: his sons John and J. Charles. John and J. Charles run the oldest Nissan dealership in Cincinnati, a 40 year tradition. While running the company the Busam brothers have expanded into new brands like their fathers before them. Subaru and Suzuki are the two latest manufacturers to entrust their products to the Busam Automotive selling tradition.

The family tradition doesn’t stop at 3 generations. Joe Jr., son of Charlie has been a member of the business since an early age. Starting at the bottom, and working his way up the ranks, Joe currently assists in management of all three brands.

The Busam family is Cincinnati’s oldest continuous running car family, lasting over 100 years. They have stood the test of time thanks to a dedicated emphasis on the importance of family values and building positive relationships with their community.

Lexi the Happy Boston

I had the privilege of meeting Lexi the Boston Terrier with her owner and rescuer Wendy. Lexi is a 10 year old, who was rescued by Wendy almost 4 years ago.

Lexi the Boston

Wendy connected with Midwest Boston Terrier Rescue through a friend who knew about the rescue. Lexi was found as a stray, and then “shelter pulled”. Midwest works with animal control agencies to place Boston’s in the Midwest Boston Terrier Rescue community.

Midwest is different from rescue’s like The League for Animal Welfare and SPCA Cincinnati because all dogs are kept in foster homes until they are adopted. The foster homes are the personal homes of volunteers for the rescue. It’s a great way to help Boston’s get healthy and adoptable.

Lexi is tons of fun, with endless energy. “I can’t express to you what a great dog Lexi is. When I first got Lexi you could tell something wrong, but she was a happy dog. She had problems socializing at first, but that only took about 4 weeks”, Wendy said. “Now Lexi is everyone’s favorite. When my nieces come and stay over, Lexi always sleeps with them.”

Fun Lovin' Lexi

Not only did Wendy adopt through Midwest, she has become a volunteer. She helps with processing adoption applications, and has helped place Boston’s with friends.

Lexi is the ultimate success story. After being found as a stray, she is passing on her new found happiness to others. Lexi is a Paw Pal with VITAS Hospice’s Paw Pal Program. Wendy (who works for VITAS Hospice) takes Lexi into hospice centers to play with hospice patients. “All of the patients love Lexi because she’s so well behaved and loves to be petted,” Wendy said. For more information on becoming a Paw Pal please contact Jill Grissom 513. 742.6310

What We’re All About

The Busam family has been in the automotive business since 1909. Busam is a family owned business that is built on one very important value — We believe in the importance of building relationships.

Buying a car is a big decision for everyone.  It is important you  trust the sales consultant, owners, and service technicians. When this trust is established, and a relationship is built, a fully satisfied car-buying experience can be had. We have always stood behind relationship building, and because of that we have been successful through the years.

As we are all aware, the communication model is changing. Messages are no longer one-way. It is so important for businesses to take the time to learn, and listen to their community.

We Understand the Importance of Listening

The focus of this blog is to interact with you. We want to open up another line of communication with you so we can learn from each other. We want to address one central question — What do you want to learn about buying cars?

We are really excited to see where this opportunity will take us! So please comment and contact us.

Can’t wait to learn from you, and began building stronger relationships!
