Getting Ready for Summer Driving

As the weather turns from the arctic tundra that was Cincinnati, to the sunshine we know and love many great things are upon us. We get to go to Reds games, hang out in one of Cincinnati’s gorgeous parks, and go on summer getaways.

Unfortunately, with those summer getaways, comes Cincinnati traffic jams. I can remember when I had my first car, sitting in traffic on 75, no A/C, windows down absolutely hating life! Well as terrible as summer driving is on the driver, it can be even worse on your car!

Not looking forward to this!

Before taking on the road this summer, give your automobile a few minutes of attention to avoid any unexpected travel surprises.

  1. Check those tires – After the horrible winter storms we had potholes pop up like crazy! Those potholes can wreak havoc on your tires. Inspect each tire thoroughly for cracks and/or punctures. This would also be a good time to check the pressure of each tire.
  2. Make sure you’re flowing – Check all your fluid levels, and consult your owner’s manual to ensure they are all at correct levels. Three fluids to make sure you are aware of are the oil, coolant, and windshield washer fluid (Those summer bugs can be fierce… SPLAT!)
  3. Important, easy checks – Here are 4 parts of  your car that are easy to inspect that will safe yourself some hassle!

Last, but not least, remember to prepare an emergency kit. Life is full of surprises, as I’m sure we all know! Here is a great list of an easy to prepare kit to give you the upper hand on Murphy and his stupid law

  • Flashlight
  • First-Aid Kit
  • Mat/Blanket
  • Extra Clothes
  • Gloves
  • Extra Windshield Washer Fluid
  • Jug of Water
  • Basic Tool Kit

Before hitting the road this summer, take a few minutes and give yourself the upper hand.

Was this helpful? What else do you have to add?
