The History of Busam Automotive

It all started in 1909. Henry Ford was traveling through Cincinnati, when his Ford broke down. Mr. Ford asked around about who could fix his car, local Cincinnatians directed him to Joe Busam’s blacksmith shop. Joe Sr. fixed Ford’s vehicle so well that Mr. Ford asked Joe to open a service facility. By 1912 Busam was selling Ford’s as the first Cincinnati Ford dealer. What started as a service center; has grown into 3 franchises (Nissan, Subaru, and Suzuki) with 2 locations.

Check out these early pictures of the staff and newspaper clippings!

An Ad Ran by the dealership During WWII

Joe Sr. operated the initial Busam Ford dealership throughout the 20’s, 30’s and early 40’s until his death in 1946. Joe Jr., representing the 2nd generation, took over when we returned from World War II. Joe Jr. took on new challenges, and began selling multiple franchises throughout his tenure as dealership principal. It was an interesting mix of manufacturers, many of which have gone and gone, including: Tucker, Packard, Rambler, Studebaker, Peugot, Maserati, Yugo, Alfa Romeo, and Datsun; which later was renamed Nissan.

Joe Jr. passed away in 1993 leaving the dealership to the 3rd generation: his sons John and J. Charles. John and J. Charles run the oldest Nissan dealership in Cincinnati, a 40 year tradition. While running the company the Busam brothers have expanded into new brands like their fathers before them. Subaru and Suzuki are the two latest manufacturers to entrust their products to the Busam Automotive selling tradition.

The family tradition doesn’t stop at 3 generations. Joe Jr., son of Charlie has been a member of the business since an early age. Starting at the bottom, and working his way up the ranks, Joe currently assists in management of all three brands.

The Busam family is Cincinnati’s oldest continuous running car family, lasting over 100 years. They have stood the test of time thanks to a dedicated emphasis on the importance of family values and building positive relationships with their community.

Making the right decision when working with a collision center is extremely important. It is essential to get your vehicle back in safe and working order before taking it out on the road.

As a member of the business community, we adhere to a Code of Ethics. This is a pledge to you to uphold the values of honesty, integrity, safety, and craftsmanship.

To honor this pledge we want to make sure you have all the best information to make an informed decision, when deciding the best steps to take when interacting with a collision center.

To help with your decision we have compiled a list of 10 important things to know when interacting with your collision center.

  • Your car is the 2nd largest investment you’re likely to make. Preserve its value, and your safety, by having it repaired professionally.
  • NEVER drive a car that could be unsafe due to damages.
  • You can visit your insurance company’s drive-in claim center before having your car repaired, or you may leave your car at our shop and ask that insurance company representative to inspect the car here.
  • You are not required by law to obtain more than one estimate or appraisal.
  • Your insurance company cannot require that you go to a particular shop, it is YOUR vehicle and YOU decide, unless it is specified in your insurance policy.
  • Differences in repair estimates are common. A lower estimate may not include all the necessary work. If you’re not sure why one estimate is different from another you’ve received, please ask us.
  • Choose a shop that has unibody repair equipment and certified technicians (I-CAR or ASE)
  • Ask if the shop will be using genuine manufacturer (OEM) replacement parts.
  • Ask if the shop offers a repair warranty on all the work that will be performed on your vehicle.
  • Let the collision center help negotiate your claim with the insurance company

Please be safe this winter. However, if something does happen we hope this information will help you make an informed decision.

It’s National Chicken Soup for the Soul Day!

Subscribe in a reader

Greetings from Busam Automotive. Did you know that today (Nov. 12) is Chicken Soup for the Soul Day?! According to the creators of the book series of the same name, Chicken Soup for the Soul Day was created as “…. a celebration of who you are, where you’ve been, where you’re going, and who you will be thankful to when you get there!”

At Busam Automotive we are always here to help you get “where you’re going”!

If that is interesting enough, here are a few pieces of  history from This Day in History since 1909

November 7, 1910 – The first air freight shipment (from Dayton, Ohio, to Columbus, Ohio) is undertaken by the Wright Brothers and department store owner Max Moorehouse.

November 11, 1921 – The Tomb of the Unknowns is dedicated by US President Warren G. Harding at Arlington National Cemetery.

I hope everyone had another great week! Everything is great over here. Love a Pet Month at Busam Subaru is barking and purring right along. We have 6 Subaru’s sold so far this month, which equals $600 for local animal rescues.

Our Nissan store is also rockin’ and rollin’ with the Year End Sales Event. Please feel free to contact us for the latest and greatest Nissan products.

The Suzuki store is also excited to show off its brand new website with video walk-arounds and some other pretty awesome features. Check it out today!
